Gum bleeding is a widespread phenomenon and it may not necessarily be a severe one; a person may observe some blood after brushing their teeth or flossing, which can aggravate sensitive gums. What is important is that in case of an emergency, a person should be aware of what measures should be taken to prevent a lot of blood loss.
The most familiar reason a person’s gums bleed is because of tartar or plaque upsurge. These substances let microorganisms grow along the gum line. Excellent oral hygiene can put a stop to sensitivity and blood loss.
Let us look at some of the ways you can stop bleeding in case of an emergency:
1. Use of ice
Ice packs are particularly useful to relieve trivial mouth injuries that are the root cause of swelling, such as cuts and scrapes. They can also help decrease pain and swelling caused by gingivitis. Apply ice for 10 minutes at a time and take 10-minute breaks. If the flow of blood does not stop, some people may consider calling a doctor.
2. Applying turmeric
Turmeric has natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Applying turmeric paste to the gums may improve the signs of gingivitis and bleeding gums. The yellow color of turmeric should not stain a person’s teeth as long as they rinse it thoroughly after use. It may also be used as a tooth-whitening agent when it is combined with baking soda.
3. Gently floss every day
A new flossing habit can cause bleeding when you initially start as your gums may not be used to the stimulation. However, after some days of regular flossing, the bleeding should discontinue.
4. Consumption of crunchy vegetables
Crispy vegetables, such as celery and carrots, can assist in keeping teeth spotless between meals. Their crusty feature can help eradicate food remains from the teeth. Also, they contain a small amount of sugar, so they do not encourage tooth decay or gum troubles.
5. Using a warm salt wash
Rinsing the mouth with salt water can help diminish bacteria and speed up healing. This method will not only soothe the gums but also stop bleeding.
